The Great Chalice of Antioch: On a Quest for the Holy Grail from Antioch to America and Back Again

Abstract

A Byzantine silver object, once put forward as a possible holy grail, is in the permanent collection of an American museum. This object was discovered at the beginning of the 20th century. Biblical archaeology, art history mix in with legend motifs and a perennial interest if the traditions associated with the Holy Grail All these factors combining both research and romantic speculation about the origin and function of this fascinating artefact provide a unique perspective on our understanding of the past.
